IronPlanet Marks One Year Anniversary for its DLA Equipment Auctions in Europe

Iron{lanet

On the 29th July 2016, IronPlanet, a leading online marketplace for selling and buying used equipment and other durable assets, commemorated one year since the launch of its first European online auction in association with the United States Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), an arm of the U.S. Department of Defense.

IronPlanet’s DLA Equipment Auctions in Europe give global buyers the opportunity to purchase surplus military equipment from the U.S. government. Stock is sourced from U.S. military bases on the continent and includes trucks, trailers, forklifts and other core construction and agricultural equipment.

The inaugural DLA auction last July was a resounding success, drawing over 40,000 unique visitors from 115 countries. One of the top performing items was a SkyTrak 6000M Telehandler, which attracted 164 bids from 31 bidders, and was eventually sold for €15,250. Buyers from 30 countries have purchased the military equipment in the past year.

“Quite often the vehicles have low-mileage and present exceptional value,” said Jeff Holmes, IronPlanet’s Senior Vice President of Government Solutions, explaining the positive response to the DLA auctions in Europe. “Buyers have confidence that they are purchasing quality items for two reasons: one, because the equipment is maintained to extremely high-standards for performance in military operations, and two, each item has received IronPlanet’s IronClad Assurance equipment condition certification, which means the equipment is in the exact condition advertised.”

The auctions success also lies with the purchasing ease that IronPlanet possesses. Sundus Rifaat, Managing Director of Nordstern Consult and a satisfied buyer from Germany, recently purchased a DLA auction item located in Germersheim. He commented: “There are many advantages to be gained from buying online with IronPlanet. Not only do you get to choose from a wide range of equipment from the comfort of your desk or jobsite, but there are many measures put in place to ensure you get a quality product. Going forward, I will continue to use IronPlanet to build and update my equipment fleet.”

When purchasing with IronPlanet, buyers are given support at every stage of the process. Before an auction, buyers are able to click through and preview the machinery on offer. Each piece of equipment up for sale is protected by the IronClad Assurance® equipment condition certification and comes with a detailed inspection report. Once a buyer places a successful bid, IronPlanet handles the payment process and provides advice on shipping services. Following receipt of the items, buyers have one day to report any discrepancies between the condition as described in the inspection report and the actual condition of the equipment received.

Given the successful introduction of the DLA Equipment Auctions in Europe, Holmes is optimistic about the future of DLA: “We are delighted that our inventory continues to become available in places like Luxembourg, Italy, Spain and other European countries. We look forward to continuing our work in Europe and expanding our presence here.”
